Myth: Only New Car Dealers Can Do Warranty Service

True or false: Until your vehicle is out-of-warranty, all maintenance services must be done at the car dealership or your factory warranty will be void. Although you may have answered “true,” the correct answer is “false.” By law, any independent repair shop can provide the services to maintain your new car warranty.

Douglas Automotive Repair Inc. is fully qualified to perform any service or maintenance on your car, and your factory warranty will remain intact.

It’s a common misconception that only car dealers can perform the maintenance services on a newer vehicle that is still under warranty. Clearly, consumers can have maintenance services done by their local independent service shop without affecting your warranty, even though dealers and manufacturers often suggest the opposite.

Consumers are protected by the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and the general principles of the Federal Trade Commission, which prohibit a manufacturer from voiding the vehicle warranty because service was done by a non-dealer.

We strongly recommend keeping records and receipts for all maintenance that is done to your vehicle by any independent shop and adhering to scheduled maintenance requirements. If a warranty claim arises, these records will provide proof that maintenance has been done in accordance with the manufacturers’ recommendations and requirements.

Is your vehicle’s factory warranty about to expire? Douglas Automotive Repair Inc can complete a vehicle inspection and give you a list of items covered under your warranty so that you can have them repaired before your warranty expires.

We accept most extended warranty plans, too. Consider us your dealership alternative!

Douglas Automotive Repair Inc is equipped to handle all of your vehicle’s maintenance needs. Give us a call today!
